Wolf on Ice-Stage 4

here’s the next stage. I have begun to add the water and improve the reflection. I think the reflection needs to be darker to set off the wolf, so I ma going in that direction. next time the finished piece.

Wolf On Ice-Stage 3

Date: Feb 12 | Posted by: | Comments (0)

I have been reworking the fur on this wolf. I wasn’t too satisfied with it so I used a soft paintbrush and removed some of the pastel. Then I added more darks and then the lights. I also used a pastel pencil on the whitest wispy hairs. I like the way it turned out. I am now working on the reflection. I can tell that it needs to be much darker than the positive image of the wolf.so that the wolf will stand out.

I also want to make the blue in the reflection darker as well. I hope to finish soon and have this piece ready to enter an upcoming show in the spring.

Close Up

Wanted to share this close up of the wolf’s head with you. I just love it. You can see I added the eye and lots of detail in his muzzle. I haven’t added the wiskers yet.

I think he’s going to be great looking when I am finished. I also darkened the area around his face with a dark brownish purple to add more contrast and drama.

Next Stage of Wolf on Ice

I have added more color to the wolf deepening it.

I have added lots of warm brown tones and am beginning to add darker accents as well.  I continue to work on the background. It is too light on the left hand side so I think I am going to seepen it some. It seems distracting.

New Wolf Painting

Date: Jan 21 | Posted by: | Comments (0)

I am continuing with the series I have been painting featuring wolves on the ice. I think they are amazing animals and they seem to really enjoy laying on the ice. This one is done on light grey velour paper.

I found that the darker papers, i.e. the middle range and darker greys were making my paintings dull and it was hard to get the lights bright enough. I also have a light blue paper that I am going to use on my next painting.

Here’s stage one :

I have started with a black drawing and I have begun to add some of the warm brown color to the fur. I also have begun a background of the ice. I will add more darks to the fur in the next stage.
