Workshop
Date | By · CommentsI was so privileged to be able to attend a wonderful workshop this past weekend with Lesley Harrison. We did a detailed drawing of beautiful dog eyes. I learned so much working with Lesley and I feel like it will change the way I work. Stay tuned for new paintings to follow soon!
Something Different
Date | By · CommentsI have been working on a mural for the teen center at Dynamic Life Ministries. I thought you might like to see it.
They wanted a cityscape and they wanted to keep it graphic in nature. The wall is 9′ by 30′ and I will be painting the opposite wall to match. It took me about a week. I decided to paint the city at sunrise. I really like the effect. The room is father large so the scale of the city is not overpowering.
Let me know what you think!

Wolf on Ice-Stage 4
Date | By · Commentshere’s the next stage. I have begun to add the water and improve the reflection. I think the reflection needs to be darker to set off the wolf, so I ma going in that direction. next time the finished piece.
Wolf On Ice-Stage 3
Date | By · CommentsI have been reworking the fur on this wolf. I wasn’t too satisfied with it so I used a soft paintbrush and removed some of the pastel. Then I added more darks and then the lights. I also used a pastel pencil on the whitest wispy hairs. I like the way it turned out. I am now working on the reflection. I can tell that it needs to be much darker than the positive image of the wolf.so that the wolf will stand out.
I also want to make the blue in the reflection darker as well. I hope to finish soon and have this piece ready to enter an upcoming show in the spring.
Close Up
Date | By · CommentsWanted to share this close up of the wolf’s head with you. I just love it. You can see I added the eye and lots of detail in his muzzle. I haven’t added the wiskers yet.
I think he’s going to be great looking when I am finished. I also darkened the area around his face with a dark brownish purple to add more contrast and drama.
Next Stage of Wolf on Ice
Date | By · CommentsI have added more color to the wolf deepening it.
I have added lots of warm brown tones and am beginning to add darker accents as well. I continue to work on the background. It is too light on the left hand side so I think I am going to seepen it some. It seems distracting.
New Wolf Painting
Date | By · CommentsI am continuing with the series I have been painting featuring wolves on the ice. I think they are amazing animals and they seem to really enjoy laying on the ice. This one is done on light grey velour paper.
I found that the darker papers, i.e. the middle range and darker greys were making my paintings dull and it was hard to get the lights bright enough. I also have a light blue paper that I am going to use on my next painting.
I have started with a black drawing and I have begun to add some of the warm brown color to the fur. I also have begun a background of the ice. I will add more darks to the fur in the next stage.
